Sun tanning has been a craze for a long time. Flaunting beautifully bronzed bodies is supposed to make a fashion statement. Today the trend has become more in vogue with film stars and other celebrities flaunting their perfectly tanned body. The only difference is that now people are more aware of what harm the sun can cause to the skin. Therefore, they have turned to sunless tanning.
Self-Tanning Solutions
Overexposure to the sun has many harmful effects on the skin. It is said to cause skin cancer, skin lesions, and premature aging, to mention a few. Self-tanner is a safe and easy alternative to sun bathing when it comes to tanning the body to perfection. These products are usually seen as sprays, lotions and creams. The effect of self-tanning products generally lasts for ten days to two weeks. These products can be applied without any outside help. They come with clear instructions regarding use and if followed properly can give the skin a beautiful tanned look. They also come in different shades and therefore a person can have light, medium, dark, or ultra-dark tan as per his or her preference. Another option is to go to tanning spas that spray on the tan for you. Other than tan sprays and lotions, some companies have come out with pills for sunless tanning. But, these pills are known to cause liver damage.
The sunless tanning products in the form of sprays, lotions, and creams are totally harmless to the skin. They usually contain an ingredient called dihydroxyacetone (DHA). This ingredient is an enzyme that reacts with the dead outer skin cells to give the skin the darkened effect.
Things To Remember
Certain points need to be kept in mind while selecting and using tanning products.
1.While choosing a self-tanner, it would be a good idea to look at the active ingredients and look specifically for DHA. Also, make sure the product is FDA-approved.
2.Self-tanning products generally do not have sunscreen in them. Therefore, even if the body looks well-tanned, it can still be susceptible to the harmful rays of the sun. So, always use a sunscreen while going outside in the sun even if the skin is tanned.
3.Remember to exfoliate the body well before applying the tanner. This helps get rid of the dead skin cells that are about to shed. Also, use a good moisturizing shower gel while showering before the tan.
4.Tanning could leave the skin dry. Therefore, it is necessary to use a good moisturizer on the skin after the process. There are many products available in the market that is especially meant for self-tanned skin. It would help to use them, instead of normal moisturizers, as they also act as a maintenance agent.
5.Finally, always remember that the tan is temporary and would wear off after a week or two at the max.
A beautifully tanned body is truly in vogue today. There is no better way to get the look than with the sunless tanning products. They are the most affordable and the safest way to get bronzed.
