Every baker has experienced baking a perfect bread a while back but when tried again it didn’t end up as exceptional as the first try. Problems occur such as the bread didn’t achieve full rise, the bread is stale and not chewy, the bread holes aren’t there, and the taste is bland. Wondering what had gone wrong, you go back to thinking about the last time you baked the same bread and couldn’t find answers at all.

To solve this problem, you need to keep consistency in your baking. You don’t have to think hard and remind yourself of what you did before, just follow the following tips:

• Baking is like science. The measurement of your ingredients must all be exact in order to get the same results. To be sure of the ingredients, get yourself a "baking notebook" where you can list down the measurements.

• Take note of the surroundings. The temperature of the room affects the rise of a dough. The colder the temperature, the slower the rise, the hotter, the quicker. Also keep track of the dough and the water you are going to use as well as the oven’s temperature. To measure the temperature of the first two, use a Digital Thermometer. Take note of the results and write it down your notebook.

• Adjust water temperature. Since the weather and the room temperature affect a rising dough, adjust the water temperature to be in par. Pro tip: Instead of using a measuring jar for water, it is better to weigh it.

• Check the brands of the products you are using. Different brands of the same ingredients sometimes react differently. Every time a new ingredient is used, weigh it and list the amount of water you will use.

• To make sure that you will achieve the perfect bread next time you bake, keep everything recorded in your notebook so you may be able to follow them again.

These simple tips are reminders to make sure that you follow the same processes, use the same ingredients, measure precisely and to list all down to be easily remembered. This way you will not always wonder why same recipe you bake comes out differently every time.
