Fourteen is the number of national parks in Mendoza, which shows the importance that the region of Cuyo has given to the preservation of its rich natural heritage. This was the reason why the route of the Paris Dakkar Rally that passed by Mendoza was detoured in some parts to avoid environmental damages. Mendoza is full of amazing spots of unparalleled beauty. You can very well stay in one of the fine Mendoza 5 stars hotels, and take one of the many eco-friendly tours that the region has to offer.
It is possible to visit the Aconcagua Mount, located in the National Park of the same name. However, there is a lot more to visit and see in the NW area of Mendoza, apart from this huge mountain. The Inca Bridge must be visited undoubtedly. This amazing rock formation shows the erosion of weather in some whimsical shapes. Also, the Horcones lagoon is a place not to be missed, because of its natural beauty, and the possibility to practice trekking and rock climbing.
The landscape changes dramatically in the desert north-central plains of the province, interrupted only by the almost miraculous Telteca forest, biological reserve of incredible richness, completely implausible in the context of complete dryness. This is one of Mendoza's highlights for those who love nature.
The southern area of Mendoza deserves a special note. A great place for camping, bird watching, and photography of the nature is an amazing rock formation called Pincheira Castles. You can ride a horse to tour the area, or bike across it. Trekking is also another option in this incredibly beautiful spot. Llancanelo is also another great natural scenario for bird watching. Some of the species that can be found are flamingos, black-necked swans and herons.
Amazing caverns can be seen at the Cave of Witches, located in the proximity. The sight is breath taking with the incredible stalactites and stalagmites. The volcanic landscape ends in the area of Payunia, where herds of friendly guanacos, absolute masters of landscape, greet the visitors. These are the reasons why Mendoza is a true paradise of ecotourism. You can get the best of both worlds: get to see all nature's treasures of Mendoza, while staying in a 5 stars hotel in the city.
