Fencing plays a vital role in protecting and ensuring the safety of your children and toddlers at home. Over the years, the basic purpose of fencing has undergone a change: from protecting one's property and animals to protecting human beings. When purchasing a new home or making changes to your existing home it is important that you consider not only protecting your premises but protecting your children with the correct fencing.
When selecting the correct fencing for your home it is important to remember that children are prone to touching as well as climbing it. After all they are too young to understand that fences are there to protect them as well as the property from trespassers.
Here is some useful tips on selecting the correct type of fencing
Wooden types are considered one of the safest methods of protecting your children as well as securing your property. They tend to blend in with the trees, flowers, and foliage and can be custom made to fit into unique shapes to create unique looks. The wood fences can also provide a natural, rustic look within the garden. One problem that the wooden types pose to children is the risk of splinters and rusted nails. It is therefore essential that you teach your children not to climb the wooden fence as this could in effect bring harm to them.
Vinyl surrounding the perimeter is also another good option if you want your children to play out. Although the financial investment is a lot higher for a vinyl fence than its wooden counterpart, the lifetime expense is a lot less for vinyl than it is a wood. A wooden fence requires both time and money for maintenance. Also, manufacturers often offer a warranty with vinyl fencing and vinyl is UV protected with their color never fading. In terms of looking after your children, vinyl is very strong and robust and can withstand a lot of force making them children-friendly.
Bamboo is widely used around patios. Bamboo is ideal as it is flexible, strong and quite cheap to purchase. With its flexible and strong properties bamboo is ideal for children as it can take the pressure if force is exerted on it.
For areas where pools are located, the correct type is essential as this an accident prone area. Fencing to the height of 5ft is commonly found and the fence type is usually metallic or aluminum. Both metal and aluminum have very strong properties and can with stand a lot of force when it is exerted. It is also relatively cheap.
Compared to all the above fences, the chain link type is not so popular amongst parents and children. Although children are often warned not to climb these types they still do. With small squares or circle links this type of fence is excellent for children to climb as they can get their feet and hands in between the links and start climbing. Please be aware of this before purchasing or installing around your premises
