WikiLeaks Proves Pro-Monsanto Government
Hello Everyone,
Remember Monsanto - the huge biotech corporation described as "the biggest threat to mankind and the earth today." Monsanto promotes genetically-modified (GM) crops. I should rephrase the previous sentence to be more specific about the nature of this corporation. Monsanto uses 'subtle pressure' and infiltration techniques to encourage people towards their way of thinking.
We knew already that this company had ties to the pharmaceutical industry. We also saw that the U.S. government, unlike officials in other countries, was not taking steps to ban GM products. European countries including Germany, France, Hungary, Austria, Luxembourg, France, and Greece had imposed a ban on MON 810 - a GM corn produced by Monsanto.
The U.S. took no action to stop the production of genetically-modified crops. Actually, U.S. officials were suspected of trying to encourage other countries to lift the ban. It is a fact that Michael Taylor, a former vice president of public policy and chief lobbyist at Monsanto and present Deputy Commissioner of Foods for the FDA, oversaw GMO policy.
Now WikiLeaks has confirmed that the U.S. Government is pro-Monsanto.
WikiLeaks Revelation
The Bush administration planned ways to retaliate against Europe for its refusal to use genetically-modified seeds.
 The Bush Plan – to engage in aggressive trading wars against countries that banned genetically-modified crops.
 The U.S. government was ready to help any officials who wanted to encourage the use of GM crops.
 In 2007, then U.S. ambassador to France, Craig Stapleton, expressed concern about France's decision to ban GM corn.
 *Stapleton worried that a new French environmental review standard could spread anti-biotech policy across Europe.
 In 2009, the U.S. ambassador to Spain asked the U.S. government to support Spanish officials in favor of GMOs.
 According to a Democracy Now** interview, the US obliged by setting up a meeting with the regional director for Monsanto.
 No place was off limits for the U.S. to protect Monsanto – even the Vatican.***
 The Guardian**** reports that the cables show US diplomats working directly for GM companies including Monsanto.
*Stapleton wrote,"…Moving to retaliation will make clear that the current path has real costs to EU interests and could help strengthen European pro-biotech voice."
*** "Opportunities exist to press the issue with the Vatican, and in turn to influence a wide segment of the population in Europe and the developing world." ~ 2008 cable from the U.S. Embassy in the Vatican.

My Thoughts
Wow! Stapleton thought that retaliation could cause "some pain" across the EU. This U.S. Ambassador seemed to have his priorities in the wrong place. Does economic pain trump the safety of the people and the health of future generations? GM food has been shown to affect reproduction and fertility. How can we even be certain about what lies ahead for the existence of human life?
GM Crops - Animal Studies
When rats were fed genetically-modified food, they experienced…
• Increased basophils - sign of allergies
• Increased blood sugar levels
• Anemia
• Blood pressure problems
• Kidney inflammation
• Liver and kidney lesions
• Smaller brains, livers, and testicles
• Partially atrophied livers
• Damaged immune systems
• Potentially pre-cancerous cell growth
• Increased lymphocytes and white blood cells - indication of a response to infections, toxins, and diseases like cancer
• In Germany and the Philippines, GM corn was blamed for the deaths of buffaloes, horses, cows, and poultry.
Have a look at a recent study by Dr. Pusztai – "Effect of diets containing genetically modified potatoes on a rat small intestine."
Seven Scary GM Foods
- GM Corn
GM corn is banned in many European countries. MON 810, a GM corn produced by Monsanto, can be compared to a monster on the loose. GM corn currently represents over 90% of all corn planted in the US.
- Soy
GM soy, a highly allergenic product, makes up almost 90% of U.S. soybeans. This substance is present in about 70% of all food products in American supermarkets. Rats fed GM soy had lower birth weight, damaged sperm and reproductive ability, and higher mortality.
- Cottonseed
(used in vegetable cooking oils)
After grazing on GM cotton, sheep died after developing severe irritation and black patches in their intestines. As well, the animals had enlarged bile ducts.
- Canola
After Canadian farmers planted GM canola seeds, weeds were produced that showed resistance to three weed killers - Monsanto's Roundup, Cyanamid's Pursuit, and Aventis' Liberty.
- Sugar from sugar beets
Since sugar beets cross pollinate easily, GM beets could infect organic varieties.
- Zucchini and Yellow Squash
GM squash contains 68 times less beta-carotene and four times more sodium than non-GM squash.
- Hawaiian Papaya
In 1998, GM papaya was introduced, and six years later, testing took place on 20,000 papaya seeds. Although 80% of the seeds were taken from organic farms, half the amount showed GM characteristics. This study is proof that it is impossible to protect non-GM crops from GM crops.
If you are still not convinced about the danger of GM crops, review our email series about Monsanto – Monsanto 007 License to Kill.......... the most harmful corporation on earth.
Recently, I received a question from a reader:
If the government prevents GMO labeling, how can I avoid GMO foods?
• Check out Jeffrey Smith's free Non-GMO Shopping Guide. Print it out and share it with family and friends.
• Download a free iPhone application available in the iTunes store. Search for 'ShopNoGMO' in the applications.
• Order the Non-GMO Shopping Tips brochure and take it to the local grocery store. Ask permission to post it in the store.
My Advice
If governments are not protecting us, we have to protect our families and ourselves. Judging from the revelations in WikiLeaks, the U.S. government is more concerned with perpetuating the spread of GM crops than trying to stop Monsanto. Even if just 5% of consumers refused to buy GM crops, the industry would be forced to make changes.
We are more powerful than Monsanto - if we act together.
Stay informed. We can make a difference.
Wishing you the best on your health journey!
