Air purifiers are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and functions. Some remove allergens alone while others remove allergens, pollutants and odors, as well. We've scoured the internet and found the top eight air purifier units based on customer reviews and price.

How to Buy an Air Purifier

All air purifiers (http://www.dealhack.com/archives/2009/04/save_extra_25_off_hunter_air_p.html) are not created equally. Smaller units are best for small areas while large units are best for bigger areas. The first thing to look for is the number of sq ft the unit will clean. Also, make sure the unit will remove what needs to be removed.

Filter types are very important to take into consideration. HEPA air filters remove the big particles including dust and pollen as well as the small stuff like dander, mold and dust mites. All filters require replacement over time; make sure to purchase a unit that uses affordable filters.

Bacteria and viruses are not removed by most run-of-the-mill air purifiers. They must include a UV light in order to remove bacteria and viruses successfully.
