Many people look around at all of the pain and suffering that takes place around the world on a daily basis and wonder why it all happens. They ask questions like "Was there always pain and suffering in the world?" Or "Will there ever come a time when it will end?" The bible answers these questions quite clearly. No, the world did not always have pain and suffering. Yes, there will come a time when it will all end and things will return to the way they once were.
We must first understand that by reading the first few chapters of the first book of the Bible called Genesis we find out that God created a perfect world where there was no death, pain or suffering of any kind. Unfortunately, the first two human beings broke God's command and the great fall of creation ensued. We find out that the reason that pain and suffering occurs in the world is because all human beings are born natural sinners and haters of God. Our world which is filled with sin suffers judgments and consequences on a daily basis.
There has always been hope, however! When we turn to the last book of the Bible, Revelation, we read a prophecy concerning the future. In chapter 21 verse 4 we read: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." The book of revelation tells us that one day God will create a new heaven and a new earth, free from pain and suffering of all forms.
It is important to note that while this promise of the future is very exciting, not everyone will be taking part in this new creation. Only those who are "saved" by the death of Jesus Christ the savior will inhabit the new earth. In order to be saved we have to understand that Jesus Christ, the son of God, walked the earth and lived a perfect sinless life. He was murdered by the hand of many sinners, and crucified on a cross. While on this cross he took on the sins of those He would save, and God poured out His wrath against these sins which fell on His Son on the cross.
John chapter 17 verse 3 states: "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." We read earlier in John chapter 3 verse 16 that God gave his only Son so that anyone believing in Him would not perish but have everlasting life. It is only through faith in Christ that we will take part in the new world which will be free from pain and suffering.
The Bible makes it very clear that no other religion on the face of the earth will save us from the wrath of God which will be poured out upon us throughout an eternity in Hell. God commands all men to repent and believe, placing their faith in Jesus Christ. Do not be fooled into thinking that merely trying to be a "good person" will get you into heaven, for the Bible says there are none who do good on the earth. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
