According to the Merriam Webster definition, addition is: a part added, the act of process of adding; especially the operation of combining numbers so as to obtain an equivalent simple quantity.
Addition is used in everyday applications such as: sports, gambling, forecasting, finance, and cooking.
Summing the value of accounts, investments, credit limits, and risk through liability are some examples of how addition is applied in finance.
The application of addition in finance can be further examined through the process of reconciling a checking account, where an account holder must track all their expenses and deposits in order to realize the actual balance of the account.
Addition is also used in financial investing when tracking the value or loss in value of stocks.
Necessity for addition skills span from money to cooking, which can be demonstrated through preparing a pot of rice.
In order to prevent the rice from becoming too crunchy or watered down, addition must be applied to factor the correct ratio of rice to water.
Timing is important in cooking and is also another great skill that uses the applications of addition as it is used to factor how many seconds, minutes, or hours from a designated time are needed to complete or begin a specific task.
Sporting events also use the concept of addition through timing as the game will begin at a specific time, be sectioned off into timed periods, and may also use time as penalties.
Addition is also used in sports to sum of the totals of individual stats for each player as well as game totals for goals, outs, fouls, time-outs, and points.
Entertainment and addition go hand in hand when figuring the probability and chance of a sports event, game of chance, or even looking into personal forecasting such as numerology.
An example of figuring probability is through a system of personal forecasting called numerology, which is a belief that numbers are connected to people by the exact day they were born.
Each single digit is assigned attributes and personal numbers are factored by using addition.
The numerical attribute is found through using addition to sum the numbers in a birthday, for example: October 1, 1934 would be 1+0+1+1+9+3+4=19=1+9=10=+1+0=1
A card games like blackjack (also known as "21") is another great example of how addition is used in figuring chance.
In this game, a player must use addition when the cards are dealt to either reach a value of 21, or get closest to 21 without going over.
Everyday addition is used in applications that range from the very basic to more complex.
Addition proves to be essential in every society of trade, entertainment, and education.
