We love our dogs. They are members of our family. So don’t you think your dog deserves its very own bed? It wasn’t very long ago that dog beds were basically an old blanket or a flattened pillow. However, through the years, dog beds have changed drastically and the choices are nearly unlimited. There are all sorts of different types and styles of dog beds, such as one which look like sofas, memory foam beds and beds which look like people beds. What type of bed would work best for your dog? Well, the answer to that depends on the type of dog you have and your own sense of style..

The first issue you’ll want to address when purchasing a dog bed is the size of the bed. It needs to match the size of your dog but not too big that it’s taking up space in your living room or kitchen. I recommend getting an approximate measurement of your dog so you can get a better idea of the size of the bed you’ll need. Do this by having the dog stand up and from the tip of its nose to the base of its tail take a measurement. Next, measure the dog from the floor to its shoulders. Now, you can also measure the dog while it is in its favorite sleeping position just to be extra sure.

The next factor you’ll want to think about is will it be comfortable for the dog temperature wise. Do you want to purchase a bed that will provide warmth in the winter or do you prefer its bed to provide better air circulation in the hotter summer months? Does durability need to be an issue? For example, will the bed be used outside in a dog house or on a front porch? If so, you will need to consider the durability of the covering and the stuffing material? Do you want a bed that is made from a waterproof material? These are all questions you’ll want to think about.

The dog bed is probably going to be a permanent fixture in a room so buy a bed which matches your home’s decorative style. The bed should compliment the room where the dog sleeps the most. If your dog doesn’t have one particular room where it sleeps the most, buy a bed which can be easily moved from room to room as long as it fits the decor of the different rooms.
