Perhaps one of the most anticipated events of prom is what happens after the dance. Most of the time, you've got several options. But how do you select which party you'll go to? What is going to happen at these parties and what kind is best for you? Here's what you could expect at a prom party, and knowing this will hopefully help you to select which prom party you want to attend.
Because prom usually happens in the spring, most prom parties are held outside. This can be essential to accommodate the sheer size of the party - usually hundreds of people will attend one party. Make sure to bring a change of clothes or plan to stop by your house before heading to the party so which you can change into something that is more appropriate for an outdoor party.
Some prom parties might have a bonfire. This is another great reason not to wear your prom outfit to the prom party. You will not want your awesome prom dress to be ruined by the stench or sparks from a fire.
Your friends may want to rent a venue for that prom party, such as a hotel or hall. This typically comes with a fee to attend and on top of all of the other expenses you've had with prom, it isn't ideal. So, you may prefer to opt for attending a free party.
There'll almost certainly be beverages at a prom party. Do keep in mind the laws on underaged drinking. Police are well-staffed on prom night, and you would not desire to be involved with the wrong crowd. If you feel you might be pressured in these circumstances, bring your own non-alcoholic drink in a re-usable container. This way, you'll know exactly what you're drinking that evening.
After the dance, you'll almost certainly be hungry. But unlike most parties, don't expect there to be so much food at a prom party. For your host, it's probably just too many people to feed. So bring a bag of chips or some other munchies for you and your friends.
Some prom hosts welcome overnight guests. Your parents will certainly have an opinion on this, but if they're comfortable with you spending prom night away from home, come prepared with your pillow and a sleeping bag. If it is an outdoor party, a tent might even be appropriate. You will need to ask around to discover what kind of a prom party it is, and what other people's plans are.
Whatever your plans are for after prom, be honest with your parents. Sure, it is a night you'll never forget, but their wisdom and experience can guide you to make it a night you'll never regret either. Let your parents know where you are, what your plans are, and how they can reach you.
Choose your prom party wisely and make sure you are surrounded by true friends which you enjoy and trust. Then you'll surely have an enjoyable night that you'll always remember.
