Salvia Divinorum is an herb. However don’t consider it just like any other ordinary herb. It is not a herb which one can use for recreational purposes. Salvia is very popular among its users. This is because it creates a different kind of sensation in its users. It generates a feeling of self-reflection and meditation. Its users are basically those customers who have a philosophical bent of mind. There are a few guidelines that any new user needs to follow. Any new user needs to refrain from inaccurate sources of information. He needs to be completely aware of the effects, uses, and properties of Salvia and most important is that he needs to know the potential risks associated with its use. So basically any naïve user has to be cautious.

Whatever be the result, no user should consider it as a drug for recreational purposes. A user should be calm and clear minded and most importantly an adult, if he wants to have a taste of the salvia divinorum effects.
It has been proved by extensive research that there are more than 1200 species of salvia existing around the world. Basically salvia is a member of that family of plants which are popularly known as mint family. Out of all the herbs belonging to hat family, Salvia is the only one known to be vision-inducing. One can grow this plant easily if he or she is aware of the precautions and guidelines. Many users tend to compare the effects of Salvia with that of alcohol. The explanation that they give is that alcohol also impairs the coordination power just like Salvia. However it should be kept in mind that Salvia cannot be used as a substitute to alcohol for several reasons. One cannot think of using Salvia as party drug like alcohol otherwise the effects will be very dangerous.
The effects of Salvia are due to a chemical substance present in the lit called as Salvinorin. This chemical is the one responsible for causing the psychoactive effects in the users. Salvinorin is known to be very dangerous if used in isolation. However a user need not be scared because Salvia leaf is safe for consumption. This is because the leaf is hundreds of times weaker in concentration. Moreover the leaf has very gentle effects on the body. There are some good findings related to Salvia usage. It has been found out of extensive research that Salvia-overdose has never been the cause of death. Studies have also revealed that Salvia usage never leads to addiction or physical dependence. However the users should not interpret Salvia to be a stimulant or sedative. Neither is it to be interpreted as a tranquillizer. At high doses it is vision inducing in nature just like entheogens. But remember that it differs from entheogens in its chemical nature. Salvia has been regarded as a sacred herb since ancient times. It has been in use since very long.
