According to Ian Kerner, a sex therapist, he advises men to stimulate their partners to the point of orgasm before penetration. In this case, it will not matter if the guy is prone to premature ejaculation, since both of them should be satisfied. But some men and their partners do mind a lot how long it takes to ejaculate.
Basically there are 3 types of ejaculation problems:
(1) Premature ejaculation which affects up to one-third of men occurs before or shortly after penetration. For other guys, they just feel that they do not last long enough to satisfy themselves and their partners.
(2) Delayed ejaculation which probably affects only 3% of men, happens when they find it difficult to reach orgasm. This is probably due to either illness such as diabetes, prostatic disease or the fear of causing pregnancy. Some medicines such as antidepressants cause this problem. For other guys, it is due to age.
By adopting a masturbation technique that involves intense pressure, friction and speed, some men condition themselves to respond to a level of stimulation no partner could duplicate. The way to overcome this is to break the old habits to change the masturbation style such as to switch hands. Michael A. Perelman, a sex and marital therapist, advocates masturbation moratorium that allows a build-up of sexual desire which can provide a mechanism for reducing the threshold of arousal necessary for orgasm.
(3) Retrograde ejaculation happens when semen flows back to the bladders instead of the normal exit through the genitals. This can be caused by diabetes, spinal cord injury, certain drugs and some surgical operations. This can be done through drugs that close the neck of the bladder but the side effect is this can both increase the blood pressure and heart rate which makes this treatment method unsuitable for men who have hypertension and heart problems.
Ways To Overcome Premature Ejaculation
One suggestion is to distract yourself, which is to think about something boring or disgusting to delay your orgasm. Though this may work for some guys but this will distance them from their partners and the sexual experience.
Other ways are the pull out action after penetration for a few minutes to postpone orgasm and the "squeeze-pause" technique which involves squeezing the tip of the genitals as orgasm approaches.
There is a newly approved drug called Priligy which works by increasing the serotonin levels, a chemical that inhibits ejaculation. This allows men to better control the timing of ejaculation. The usual side effect is it can cause headache to some men. This treatment is very expensive because a packet of three 30 mg tablets costs US$122. This only treats the symptoms but does not cure the underlying causes of premature ejaculation. Therefore, this is at best a temporary quick-fix.
Instead of drugs, some men use a de-sensitizing cream to delay orgasm. There is an even easier way which is to double up your condoms to reduce your stimulation.
A more feasible way is to use masturbation which can help men learn to control their level, which is essential for delaying orgasm. It is a "dress rehearsal" for sex. Having repeated orgasms will bring about delayed ejaculation. Some believe that the best premature ejaculation tip is to have as many non-ejaculatory orgasms as possible per week.
Perelman advises men to fantasize about a sexual experience with their partners when they masturbate. He tells them to try "to approximate, in terms of speed, pressure and technique, the stimulation he likely will experience through manual, oral, or vaginal stimulation with his partner." However, once your fantasy turns you on, try to focus back on your body to observe how it feels and to recognize the "tickling" sensation prior to ejaculation.
After you get familiarized with this feeling a few times, the next time when you masturbate until you reach this sensation you stop the stimulation for at least 15 seconds before you resume pleasuring yourself. Gradually increase the number of times you stop stimulating yourself until you have reached 6 in your subsequent masturbating sessions.
