When you stop and think about it, you rarely ever encounter a situation where you need certified translation services. But when the time comes you do need it, you best make sure that you get the best translation agency for the job. Why? Consider this - situations that call for certified translations are always of high importance. Whether it is for adoption, immigration papers, marriage and divorce papers, working or studying abroad - and many more - the quality of the certified translation will always make an impact.

When I was still working in my native Japan, I was in a rut; and so, looked for ways how to start a new life. I decided to move to London. But having my birth certificate, school transcripts and other documents needed for my migration printed in Japanese, I needed to have them translated certifiably. Not wanting to screw up my chances to start anew, I decided to search for the best translation service.

So to help those who are in the same situation I was in, let me save you some time. Below are the top five agencies you can count on for certified translations.

Foenix Translation Ltd

Foenix Translation is a U.K. certified translation agency with 10 years experience. Foenix was once part of the Nettprofile Group before they branched out as a separate company to focus solely on legal certified translations. The company strives to connect the world through its accurate, fast and reliable translation service. With offices in the U.K, the U.S., Argentina, France, Canada and Brazil, Foenix Translation is one of the largest and far reaching translation agencies in the world. Their online ordering system is the first of its kind.

My take?

This is the agency I ended up using (their inclusion on the list of various consulates as official translators helped). They were very helpful and offered to guide me every step of the way, especially since I was initially afraid of sending my personal documents via Internet. I was never treated like a number, but was treated like a human being. This helped to gain my trust. Their online ordering system was a breeze to use, and even though I was miles away, I got my certified translated documents within a week. But their strength is also their weakness. Their online ordering system acts up sometimes and I found myself refreshing the page a couple of times. Nevertheless, Foenix Translation takes the top spot in my book.

CertifiedTranslation.net

The name says it all, certifiedtranslation.net offer certified translation services for most of your needs. Based in the U.S., the company accepts orders from the world over. Their translations are legally accepted all throughout the United States as well as overseas (by means of an apostille).

My Take?

I almost ended up using this agency. Their staff was accommodating and very professional. My questions were promptly answered and I was convinced with their every answer. However, what turned me off was during the translation process, it took them more than two days to have mine done. I've been told it was because of a clerical error, and I believe them. It may have been a fluke, nevertheless, I still recommend this agency for those who value good overall service.

U.S. Translation Company

Another U.S. based agency, the U.S. Translation Company has been doing certified translations for 15 years. An award winning translation service provider, the company aims to deliver fast, accurate and reliable translations that are crucial to the success of your project.

My Take?

The name may be lacking in the creative department, but when it comes to translation services, these guys know their business. An award winning translation company, that alone speaks for itself. The reason why I didn't go with them however, was because of the cold treatment I got. Don't get me wrong, they were very helpful, but the vibe I got was reeking of "corporate-ness." It may work with a lot of people, but I was a kid then, so I guess I was looking for a homely feel. Nevertheless, unless you got home issues like I do, I highly recommend this company to anyone.

Languages Unlimited

Another U.S. based translation service, this one has an office in Canada as well. They guarantee the lowest rates, and I agree. Though some are lower and offer more for your money, Languages Unlimited are still lower priced than most. They cover over 215 languages and their live online support has proven to be a helpful tool.

My Take?

Though I never had anything translated with this company, I did get to chat with one of their online live support staff. At first I was greeted by someone who obviously was new, and that irked me quite a bit. But once I was able to speak with someone more knowledgeable, I can attest to his (I talked to a guy) vast knowledge in certified translations. I recommend this agency for those looking to have their documents translated on a budget, but still want the security of knowing that they know what they are doing.

ABC Translations

Again, another U.S. based company. This company was founded in 1997 and their experience is on par with others that have been around for 20 years. A budget friendly translation company, they deliver the goods as well as their higher priced brethren.

My Take?

Though ABC Translations have the best customer service department I have encountered so far, they are somewhat lacking in the user friendly department. They utilize an upload quote form, which is simple to use. However, I found myself having to upload the same document 3 times. And I had to upload them one by one. You can upload all your documents at the same time, but when I tried this, the site froze on me. However, their customer service, as mentioned, is top notch and if you can make their upload form work right away without problems, I recommend this to those on a budget.

For quality certified translations, you can never go wrong with my personal top five agencies in the world. Though each have their own strengths and weaknesses, you can be sure that each of the companies above can deliver the goods (your mileage may vary though). With my experience with Foenix Translation - the one I eventually chose - I was more than happy with the final output. The presentation and formatting was perfect, and they even provide an actual certificate (which I think they are the only ones that do so).

At any rate, the above companies represent the best translation agencies you can find anywhere. Though one might cry "bias" and argue that among the five, four are based in the U.S., while only one is in the U.K. (with offices across the globe - and the one I eventually chose), the differences among them are minor. If you need to learn more, or wish to inquire about their particular brand of service, feel free to contact the companies above to learn more how they can help you.
