Wicking layer is the layer closest to the skin. Fabrics must be made of polyester. Polyester has "wicking" power making it an ideal inner wear. This means the fibers will wick or move moisture away from your skin and pass it through the fabric so it will evaporate. This keeps you warm, dry and comfortable. Even with the cold temperature skier will still sweat since skiing is such a high adrenaline winter sport.
The second layer is called insulating layer. Womens ski apparel in this layer includes sweaters, sweatshirts, vests and pullovers. The purpose of this layer is to keep heat in and cold out, which is accomplished by trapping air between the fibers. One most common fabric for insulating layer is the fleece. This maintains its insulating ability even when wet and spreads the moisture out so it dries quickly.
The third layer also known as the protection layer. The exterior layer is also called "shell" that guard the skier’s body from elements of winter. Womens ski apparel in this layer should windproof and waterproof yet breathable at the same time to keep the moisture outside and allows perspiration to escape, keeping the skier’s body dry and comfortable.
