Insect repellents can be very risky yet indispensable especially in getting rid of those insects, bugs, ticks and other pests found at home. Even though mosquito control is part of the community’s responsibility, we should start thinking on how we can possibly eliminate or at least lessen the problems of mosquito bites. Subsequently, we need to protect not only ourselves but also our loved ones from the different diseases these pests may bring such as dengue fever and malaria. Since most pest controls being offered by pest control companies are quite expensive, mosquito sprays and other insecticides are found to be one of the best alternatives in providing solution to these problems.
A lot of mosquito sprays being offered in the market contain DEET otherwise known as N-diethyl-m-toluamided. Mosquito sprays containing DEET has proven to reduce the hazards of mosquito bites. Based on several studies, products with higher percentage of DEET can offer longer hours of protection from mosquito bites. However, in choosing a mosquito repellent you have to consider its use whether outdoor or indoor and of course whether you are applying the product to adult or children. Recommended DEET content for children should not be more than 10 percent. Since most people are unaware of the proper use of DEET products, it is important to read the label instructions to ensure safety among children. Parents should carefully understand the concentration of DEET repellants especially if being used for a longer period of time.
DEET based insect sprays work effectively by concealing every inch of your skin from insects. Although you can opt to use natural products or non-DEET repellents, you may want to reconsider using DEET sprays if you have suffered previously from extreme mosquito bites. Apart from DEET sprays, another product that has proved to be highly effective and could last long is picaridine-based spray. CDC (Centers for Disease Control) has recommended the use of products with picaridin because of its safety among the users and its efficacy. Picaridine, compared to DEET, has several advantages. This ingredient is odorless and does not damage clothing. Unlike other products, picaridine-based sprays are safe to use and are less likely to cause skin discomforts.
Along with these information on how we can choose the best mosquito spray is the responsibility of using it appropriately. After deciding on what product to use, you have to make sure that your skin will not react to the spray causing inflammation or itchiness. Before using, try the product first by applying a small amount of it on your arms. Never spray the repellent directly on your face. Avoid using these products over inflamed or irritated skin. For DEET based sprays, do not apply under clothing as it will damage the fabric. Always wash treated skin with soap and water after returning from outdoor. Repellents are flammable so avoid spraying while smoking. Though using these sprays can be very effective, always remember that we still have to take necessary preventive measures to avoid the dangers of mosquito bites.
Mosquito Spray is just one of the many effective mosquito control that you can utilize to stop the spread of mosquito related diseases. For a more detailed list of effective mosquito control guide, visit http://www.mosquitocontrolguide.com/.
