Those who own art galleries know that after a sale of fine artwork is made to a new client, a fresh headache begins when you consider how to get the artwork to its new home without damage. The surface of fine art photographs as well as paintings are very delicate, and can be harmed by having liquids dropped on them, or scratches to the surface can mar it as well. It is always wise to carefully protect your fine artwork any time it needs to be transported or stored, and there are several ways to do that.
Art Packing Is An Art In Itself
Bubble pouches are the way to go when you are looking for an effective art transport choice. Bubble pouches are made from two sheets of sturdy plastic, inside which are air bubbles. Bubble pouches are also a lightweight but heavy duty choice for art packing, saving you money on postage costs. You can find these pouches in a wide variety of sizes, and what many gallery owners do is place the framed artwork inside the pouch, and then put cardboard corners on each corner to doubly protect those exposed areas. You can choose from a top or side opening for the pouch, and many come with an adhesive strip, so that you can safely close the artwork securely inside the pouch for art transport. The pouches can also be reused if you are looking for an inexpensive way to move your own artwork around safely. Many who have a variety of electronic devices, such as Kindles and other computerized books, or small laptop computers, find that the pouches work equally as well for transporting these delicate items.
Other ways to move your artwork around would be in archival storage boxes. Photo storage boxes are sized so that your fine art photographs can lay flat inside without wrinkling. The corners of better archival storage boxes come reinforced with metal, which means you can safely stack them, even if full, during your art transport, and the images will come through the experience just fine. Photo storage boxes provide an excellent way to organize your prints, because the outside of the box can be labeled by date or event, making it easy for you to find the pictures you need when you want them.
You may have potential clients come into your art gallery to see your artwork, and they will want to touch it. This is bad, because skin oils from fingers can damage the artwork's surface over time. This is why many artists and gallery owners store their artwork in clear bags. Clear bags made from plastic allow visual clarity so that customers can see your artwork in the clear bags, and they keep fingerprints and dust off the art as well.
Boxes, bags and pouches are the easy answer for safe art packing.
