Taking the Metformin HCl medications isn’t enough to treat Type 2 Diabetes. Yes, you took the tablets during meals. But for dessert you ate two slices of cakes and drank two cans of beer today. Tomorrow, you will take the tablets, eat slices of pies for snacks and drink another couple of beers. So where does this lifestyle take you? Nowhere.
Metformin HCL
First you are not fully treating yourself. Second, you may be exposing yourself to health risks that may either be hard to cure or deadly.
Lactic Acidosis, a condition where your pH levels are low, could take place in your body. Drinking too much alcohol, accompanied by metformin, exposes your body to Lactic Acidosis, which can be deadly. In some instances, patients consuming in a little alcohol are still allowed to take metformin hcl. Either way, patients should still seek advice from their doctors before having the medication.
Metformin hcl will work great if coupled with diet and exercise. Those at risk of having the diabetes will be avoiding having the disease if diet and exercise plus Metformin compose their lifestyle. Those with the disease will be reducing the risk of getting on the dangerous zone, even curing themselves completely of the disease. Sounds easy and good. But here’s the next problem: lack of self-discipline in some people.
Alcoholics say they can’t live without several shots of whiskey or scotch every night. Same thing with overweight and obese people who needs the exercise and diet most. These people needs more than initiative to reach their goals. Some can’t just throw away the home-baked pies and cakes in their fridge. Psychologically, that will be a disaster. That’s where they need a third party to help them.
Third party means family members and housemates. Family members should support the idea that one of the members living in the house needs to exercise and diet for the sake of reducing blood sugar levels and living a healthy life. Family members should help the patient by not exposing high sugar and cholesterol content foods. They should even take the healthy diet themselves and accompany the patient in exercising. Doing the medication alone can be hard and depressing.
Metformin HCl can help speed up loss of weight for these people. As stated in a study made in 2001, they observed several people with diabetes diagnoses who took the medication. People taking metformin has lost average of two kilograms by taking the tablets alone. But those who coupled the meds with diet and exercise, an average of 7 kg were lost in one year. That is about 15.4 pounds.
There is no shortcut to treating the disease. It needs to be done in a long term, even including taking trips to doctors several times a year. It won’t take a regular medication of Medformin HCl alone to cure the diseases or to prevent it. Just as any doctor and health expert would say, it takes discipline and belief to shift to a very healthy lifestyle.
