Among the many kinds and genus of orchid plants we find the one which is called the "Queen of Orchids". Its name is Cattleya.
Another very deserved name that Cattleya has gained is "corsage orchid". The reason for this it’s because the exquisiteness and beauty of this most delicate orchid flower makes the most suitable component for the finest flower decorations, including corsages and floral arrangements.
Now, if we speak of the possibility of growing our orchid plants in our garden or even indoors, we will probably think that the proper care that such a fragile looking orchid requires would be very difficult and unmanageable for us to provide. Well…Wrong! I would say. Actually, with just some basic rules and, of course, a little attention, our Cattleya orchid will be well tended and will thrive at home.
First of all, we must know that Cattleya orchids are epiphytic plants. It means that the roots of the orchid do not grow under the soil (which is the feature for terrestrial orchids) but they cling to a bark of a tree and stay visible, thus "breathing" the air – just like us.
For those who are thinking of growing orchids at home, it will be an interesting piece of information to know that one of cattleyas main features is that they use to display pleasant smelling blooms. Another feature that will probably interest orchid hobbyists is the usual color of cattleyas. We find cattleyas available in a vast range colors, but the most usual are orange, pink and, particularly, white.
There are some guidelines that we should abide by so that our cattleya orchid in good shape. To list them all is beyond the goal of this article. Nonetheless, we may say that the guidelines for cattleya orchid caring is very resembling to that pertaining other orchid specimens, with a couple of minor variations. In that regard, a good tip is that, before watering your cattleya orchid, you should make sure that the orchid pot is completely dry. That will help your orchid to thrive in an ambiance similar to the one in its natural home ground, with cyclical dry and wet periods. Cattleyas do not demand much watering: once or, at the most, twice every week should be enough.
To summarize, Cattleya the "Queen of Orchids" is a highly graceful and beautiful orchid that we can farm in a right way if we emply the suitable tending and attention it is worthy. That way we will take delight in the beauty of their colored blooming and perfume inside our own home or in our garden, and our orchid plant will be thankful to us.
