Replacing a bad addiction with a healthy addiction, is an easy way to quit smoking. Find a hobby that is interesting and focus all energy towards that hobby. The hobby won't be detrimental to your health and it will keep your mind occupied, preventing thoughts about cigarettes. When you reach the point of boredom find a new hobby.

Stay busy with projects, long books and physical exercise. Physical exercise is most important when quitting smoking. It's the fastest way to overcome the bodies addiction. Exercise if health permits, in spurts. If you find the hobby is boring then take a short time to exert energy. The dread of exercise or the boredom of the hobby will replace the urge to smoke.

Quickly, overcoming extreme urges. Walking is helpful but the most beneficial is a sport or activity that increases the bodies circulation for a short period of time. Try speed walking with small breaks every five minutes. Then when this proves useless, push the break time out in ten minute increments. Next, tackle the oral obsession. This is easily accomplished with candy and gum. It's as simple as having something available to pacify the urges.

Of course, candy is not designed to replace the chemicals found in cigarettes. The idea is to busy your mouth with something less harmful and enjoyable. This is often the result of weight gain. However, it is easily prevented with healthy, empty food and snack items. Don't deprive yourself, this is not the time to diet. Instead, fill your life with fast healthy alternatives to junk food.

The first twenty-four hours are said to be the most difficult. In that period of time the chemicals remaining in the body have run the course. Resulting in a phase of with drawls, anxiety, sadness and fatigue. Stand firm against this cycle and you'll find yourself few steps away from happiness. The next period of time following the difficult twenty-four hours are a relief.

The body is energized and awake, which serves as a negative reminder of the awful addiction that was overcome. Another positive result of no longer smoking is the smell of smoke is gone from clothes, furniture and skin.

After quitting these alarming factors will become more apparent. Until you quit try to use these as helpful guidelines when smoking. Limiting the opportunity to smoke will keep the number of cigarettes down to a minimum.
