There are laws in the United States and other countries banning the use of Asbestos but not that long ago it was a commonly used mineral. Asbestos has been in use for over 2,000 and was first utilized by ancient Greeks who named the mineral Asbestos, meaning "inextinguishable". Even two thousand years ago, ancient Greeks were aware of the health challenges caused by Asbestos and noted a sickness of the lungs in slaves that wove the mineral into cloth. Disregarding the Greek’s observations on Asbestos’ link to lung challenges Asbestos was made popular in America by the Industrial Revolution during the late 1800’s.
Throughout the Industrial Revolution and into the twentieth century, Asbestos was used as insulation for steam pipes, turbines, boilers, kilns, ovens, and other high-temperature products. In 1924 the first diagnosis of Asbestosis was made prompting Asbestos studies in Europe. Following the studies Asbestos laws were passed in England in 1931 and ten years later in the United States. Asbestos companies continued to place workers in conditions as dangerous and profitable as the law would allow well into the great depression of the 1930's when medical journals of record started publishing articles linking asbestos to cancer. This delay in Asbestos regulation has resulted in numerous unnecessary Asbestos related illnesses and deaths.
On July 12, 1989, Environmental Protection Agency issued a final rule banning most asbestos-containing products. Today Asbestos Attorneys deal with cases involving workers who dealt with mining Asbestos, products containing Asbestos, or were exposed to asbestos in their homes and places of employment. Asbestos Attorneys recommend contacting your physician for a health screening if you believe you have been exposed to Asbestos. If diagnosed with a health challenge like Asbestosis or Mesothelioma Lung Cancer due to Asbestos exposure, contact an established Asbestos Attorney to help fight for your personal rights.
