A lot of businesses will be considering the extent of the recent cuts and recession on their budget and will be wondering how to expand, or will there be enough to keep everyone in a job. Some however, will be thinking about whether or not they should refurbish their offices and warehouses. So to help I’ve provided a little look at the benefits and the drawbacks of refurbishment.

First lets look at the positives that refurbished office environment can bring.

It allows the workers to move freely around the office, depending on your specification, which will increase productivity and efficiency if they are able to move quickly to their next objective or location. You must also consider the aesthetic properties of refurbishment as well, as the building will look more appealing, possibly enticing customers and possibly motivating your work force. You may also increase the value or the rental income of the property if it looks more attractive. In refurbishing you will have a chance to adjust the buildings specifications as you see fit, allowing you a level of flexibility, especially if you need to create space for a large machine, or to make the building more environmentally friendly.

However, there are some disadvantages, for example, the refurbishment project may disrupt your workflow, and especially if it is a small business you wish to develop. There is of course the issue of cost to consider as well, as not too many businesses will risk their cash on something aesthetic when it may be better used elsewhere. Another cost that needs to be considered is the time cost. If all the workflow is slowed or maybe even stopped then the longer that the refurbishment project goes on for, the more the business could stand to lose, and in these tricky times it may not seem worth the risk. With all this taken into account we must factor the prosperity of the business into the equation, to see whether or not a refurbishment is worth, and we must also mention that some refurbishment companies will offer tactical solutions to try to avoid disrupting the businesses.

Hopefully this small guide has influenced your decision about whether you feel the need to refurbish your office blocks.
