In any manufacturing operation, there are times when there is a necessity for short-term special operations. It could be caused by some materials that need to be reworked or modified; or it could be materials that need to be sorted, or a special modification to a standard product that a customer has requested. Regardless of the reason, these special operations are a reality in any manufacturing environment.

The problem comes in that most manufacturing facilities don’t have adequate unused space that can be allocated for these short-term operations. Instead, the people performing these operations are expected to accomplish their work in whatever space can be found, most commonly an unused building or the corner of a warehouse.

While any space is better than no space, placing these operations in non air-conditioned areas is a guaranteed formula for reduced worker productivity, especially in hot climates. A number of studies have been done to prove that worker comfort; both in workspace organization and in workplace climate greatly affect the ability of the workers to complete their tasks with minimal errors and at a high rate of efficiency.

Workers in a properly cooled area don’t tire as quickly, maintain a better attitude, can focus on their work better, and aren’t constantly seeking excuses to go to the rest room. Even if the environmental factors prevent the ambient temperature from being brought down to the ideal comfort zone of 74 to 76 degrees Fahrenheit, the fact that the company has made an effort to provide for worker comfort has benefit. Employees who feel that the company cares about them are much more likely to care about the company, and the products they are producing for that company.

What is needed in these cases, in addition to the workbenches and chairs and tools that the work force will use to complete their tasks, is a portable climate control system to be brought into these temporary operating areas for the duration of the project. They are portable, because these types of operations are constantly moving. A reserve supply of such portable air conditioning units increases the factory’s flexibility and ability to maintain efficiency and good employee morale in these situations.

Portable air conditioners are available in a variety of sizes and capacities for both office and factory/warehouse areas. Since they are designed to be portable, most of these units run off 115 voltage alternating current (VAC), eliminating the need for special wiring.

Portable air conditioners are an easy way of insuring that temporary manufacturing operations run smoothly and efficiently.
