All ferrets are typically grouped according to their coloring. Ferret colors are varied based on the color of the guard-hairs and undercoat.

This chocolate ferret has fur that is wonderful shade of brown. The coloring is a little bit like the black sable. The undercoat has either a golden tone or it is white. Most of them have brown eyes, but on occasion you may see one who has dark burgundy eyes. The nose is usually a light pink. Although, sometimes, it may have a beige or brick colored nose.

The champagne ferret can be several shades of tan or may even be as dark as a "diluted chocolate". The undercoat can be white to cream colored. The eye color may range from a light color to a dark burgundy and the nose is usually pink.

Black ferret guard-hairs are black while his undercoat is either white or has a light golden tone to it. His eyes are black or as close to black as possible. The cute little ferret nose is also black. On occasion, the nose of the black ferret will be a speckled black. Just remember not to mix up black ferret, described above, with the Black Sable.

The black sable seems to be black but, if you look at it closely, you will realize that he is really a very dark brown. He has a white or cream colored undercoat. His eyes are really deep dark brown, almost black. His nose is also black. Although, occasionally some black sable ferrets have a marbled, blackish brown nose.

The albino ferret, similar to the albino in any other species, lacks any pigment in his skin or his eyes. The guard-hairs and undercoat, of this ferret type, may range from snow white to a creamy white. Every albino also has light to medium pink eyes and a pink nose.

The cinnamon ferret's guard-hairs are a glorious shade of light reddish brown. The undercoat is either a golden tone or white. His eyes are light to medium burgundy and his nose is usually pink. Although, from time to time, this ferret type to have a nose as dark as beige with a brick colored "T" outline. Many experts believe that the true red cinnamon ferrets do not even exist today!

The DEW(Dark-eyed white) ferret is similar to the albino in some ways. He has either a white or cream colored coat and a pink nose. But unlike the pink eyes of the albino ferret, this one has dark burgundy eyes. The DEW pattern of this animal covers about 10 percent of guard-hairs in the form of a stripe, colored tail spots or is sprinkled throughout the coat itself. The unfortunate thing about this ferret type is that they tend to be prone to deafness, a result of the Woardensburg Syndrome. This is the same syndrome that causes deafness in white long-haired cats with at least one blue eye.
