Dogs are man's best friend, and I only wish the best for my friends. I love Max to death and I want to see him live a long life. Part of a dog's life span is dental health. Oral problems can result in gum disease, dental calculus, and sometimes even missing teeth! I personally have a hard time going to the dentist when something is wrong with my teeth, so why would you want your pooch to go through the pain and problems that comes with poor dental health? We have some solutions just for your pitbull below.
The first and easiest solution is feeding your pitbull dry dog food. Dogs like the canned stuff because it is moist and flavorful, but the dry food is has more health benefits. Because they have to chew it, they receive a stronger jaw and the food actually works as a toothbrush, removing plaque and tartar from the pitbull's teeth.
Another option you have as a pitbull owner is to give them rawhide chew toys, found in your local pet store. These toys are a great way of giving your beloved dog's teeth and jaw a workout. His teeth will be stronger and have less problems in the future. A side benefit is that your dog will have something to chew that is healthy for him, and not your shoes!
Next time you buy some meat for your family at the butcher's market, ask the butcher for some extra bones he ma have for your dog. Pitbulls especially love chewing delicious bones and getting that wonderful bone marrow. This will be a great benefit to your dog's dental health.
Some devoted owners choose to purchase a doggie toothbrush, brushing their pitbull's teeth manually. This is a great option if you are up to the task of getting inside your dog's mouth twice a week. My Max is gets too excited when I tried using the toothbrush on him, so I had to resort to other methods. Consult your veterinarian on which toothpaste to use.
Finally, make sure you visit the veterinarian's office at least once a year for a full dental cleaning. Your vet should be knowledgeable and able to answer any questions you may have about your pitbull's dental health. This is not a complete list off all that you can do, so your vet may offer some more suggestions. That's great! Make sure you utilize whichever you are comfortable doing because your dog should not suffer because of poor oral health. Good day canine lovers! Get more pitbull dental health tips.
