There have been times in the past when if you had an old vehicle you wouldn’t have been able to get rid of it for love nor money. Scrap was almost worthless, and as such salvage companies would have to be paid a princely sum in order to collect your unwanted vehicle. Even those that were able to get their vans to the scrap yard would have been met with indifference, and the thought of receiving any money for the vehicle was almost laughable.
These days’ things have changed. Firstly of all, salvage operations are enjoying the fact that scrap metal is fetching a lot of money these days, and quite naturally, they are all interested in claiming the bodies of large vans which of course have plenty of scrap metal attached! On top of this, there are more and more people looking for second hand van parts. The reason for this is that economically speaking things are difficult for many people, and this means that the cost of new parts for vehicles is somewhat prohibitive. Because of this transits wanted is a recurring theme at many recycling places. As you would imagine, Transits are one of the most common vans on the road, and have been for many years which of course means that there are always people looking for second hand Transit van parts. The cost of some of these parts new can be hundreds of pounds, whereas a second hand part can be just a fraction of this cost. Salvage companies are happy to be able to make some money on the scrap value, and retain the parts of the van that are still valuable and useable.
If you are fortunate enough to have an old Transit van, or in fact any van, then the overwhelming likelihood is that you will be able to generate some money from the sale of the vehicle to a salvage company. You may not even need to take the vehicle to them, as some of the better companies will actually come and collect the vehicle for free.
If you want to find one of these companies, then the best place to search is on the internet. You may assume that the easiest thing to do is to look online to find your nearest salvage company, but in actual fact, because prices fluctuate so significantly you will often find that a company that is further afield will still collect your vehicle and pay you a better price than the local company. A quick search online for companies that will take Transit vans as scrap should yield some excellent results, and it will give you a good chance to recoup some of the money that you will need to buy your new van.
