When you reach the stage where you need to generate the content for your website, you need to start to think about the guiding principles you need to take into consideration prior to submitting the content of your website to the Internet.
You need to make sure that the content is very easily read because the vast majority of people looking at your pages will not want to have to plough through massive and complicated paragraphs of text online. They will simply become disinterested and then navigate to another website, so it is vital to keep everything you want to convey as simple as possible, breaking it all up into smaller bite sized pieces.
Here are some guidelines for the length of your content. Firstly, when it comes to headings, do not make them more than eight words long. For sentences, keep them short, preferably around fifteen to twenty words and with paragraphs somewhere between forty and seventy words long. When it comes to the entire website page, do not put more than three hundred words on any page.
Wherever it is possible, break up the text. You can do this by providing a summary of what you want to convey. You should use headings and sub-headings that are enlightening, following them with paragraphs of around four or five lines that support the heading or sub-heading. You have to remember that you will only have a few vital seconds during which you can grab the attention of the person visiting your website and most people will just simply scan the pages for the information they want to know. To do this, you need to hold their attention and this is how to do it.
Consider the use of bulleted or numbered lists, making them bold typeface or perhaps even coloured so that you can emphasise the points and make them stand out on the page. Think about the inclusion of links at the end of the paragraphs or even within the text itself, which will direct your visitors to other pages within your site where they will be able to discover more in depth information.
When you pull together the actual wording, do not make it too personal. Yes, they will want to be able to relate to you as a real person, rather than just feeling they are looking at words on a page. However, they will not be interested in you as such, instead wanting to know just how you can help them, because ultimately they are interested in themselves, what they want and how you can help them. You should write the content bearing in mind what your visitors will want to know and in particular addressing the question that they will be asking themselves – ‘what is in it for me?’
If you should need any help with any of this, try contacting an affordable website design agency, who will not only be able to provide relatively cheap web design, but who will be able to help to mastermind some attention grabbing content.
