A business that calls someone without previous contact for marketing purposes is considered cold calling. Some people believe this is an effective way to open potential business. For, during a call, even a short one, many facts from one to another can be exchanged. A person who works nearly any position in a company might find new business this way.

Some countries believe in privacy. For this reason, some portions of Europe do not abide this behavior from businesses. There are laws to this effect. This can also be said of the United States. So much so, that individuals may submit phone numbers on a national list to keep businesses from calling them. If one is to use this system, one must do so every several years.

Regardless, a business has written about the benefits this type of interaction may be. Such as, a company may get a better feel of a particular need for certain products, or opening an avenue for two or more companies to work on a particular product or set of products. For, the initial goal of the call is not necessarily to sell something, but to instead open lines of communication.

Many suggest to have in mind what is to be said during the cold call, prior to dialing the number. Some suggest that a full paragraph be spoken, before the one called is allowed to respond. This way, the one who is called can understand what the call is concerning, prior to being given an out.

During the call, some purport to stating a particular time for a meeting. Do not give a generalization about potential appointments. They also recommend that any interaction be positive.

It is stated that the phone ringing at a residence, especially during meal times, is not very effective. However, calling businesses for the first time to generate business can be quite successful. This type of interaction may have a bad reputation, but from business to business, it is often a very successful way to formulate new clients.
