TX-Piney Woods dwellers would likely not do well with a geothermal heat pump due to the degree of urbanization in that part of Texas. Heating would obviously not be the concern that it is in TX-Northern Plains. On the other hand, in much of TX-Northern Plains, a heat pump makes a great deal of sense. In combination with a wood stove for the winter, the cost of installing and running it would be much lower. And there would be no unusual costs associated with heat pump repair. TX-Northern Plains new home owners, if given the option, would do well to chose this option.
