Sometimes finding the ideal home is challenging. The potential buyers have already done all of the basic things that people do when they are house hunting. They have made a list of must-haves. They have ruled out certain elements. They have calculated how much home they can afford. They know exactly which neighborhood is the right one for them. They know exactly how many square feet they have to have to be happy. There is the matter of the garage, the chimney and the school district. They know exactly what they want, but the ideal home eludes them. Nothing feels quite right. What’s next?

The first step is to speak to their real estate agent. As a professional, they may know exactly what is holding the potential homebuyer back from finding something suitable.

For example, they may be holding out specifically for an Austin home with a basement. This is going to be a very long process, because there are very few houses in Austin, Texas that have basements. The soil and topography are not suitable for basements except in the Hill Country. Even then, other factors, such as water and sewer, may eliminate those homes from consideration.

Neighborhood

Some folks are determined to buy a home in a particular neighborhood. It may have a reputation of being where the in crowd lives. It may be near work or the gym. Taking a look at other areas may bring a pleasant surprise. Most cities have more than one desirable neighborhood. It may really be a matter of finding the right home, then deciding whether the neighborhood is suitable or not.

Schools

Similar to the stigma of neighborhoods, some potential homebuyers will only look at houses in specific school districts. This even applies to those who do not have school-age children. House hunters should keep in mind that most cities and towns take pride in all of their schools. Even the less popular schools may still be an excellent environment and source of education for students.

Amenities

When nothing seems to be the right home of the future, it might be time to look into houses on the market that don’t exactly fit the must-have list. Sticking only to those that are affordable, the buyers’ real estate agent can show them something else. The number of rooms might be wrong, or the square footage is off, but it might just be the one.
