This theory is used by acupuncturists with the thought that an imbalance or blockage in the flow of chi will cause illness. Acupuncture unblocks whatever is causing the imbalance in chi to be able to restore one's health. Acupuncture is often used by people for relief of pain. It is done by putting needles that are very thin into certain points of the body. These needles are believed to influence the energy flow in the body. It can be used as is or can be a part of a treatment program. Uses of acupuncture may include:
Treatment of headache. Acupuncture is most beneficial in giving a long lasting relief on chronic headaches.
Treatment of menstrual cramps.
Myofascial pain can also be treated due to spasm in the muscles.
Low back pain.
Also said to aid in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Inflammation in the tubes of the lungs, or asthma, that causes difficulty in breathing, chest tightness, and wheezing.
Labor pain and dental pain is also relieved.
How does Acupuncture work?
Acupuncture involves stimulation of specific locations in the skin with different techniques by using a needle, which are stimulated manually, or with electricity.

Being a widely practiced therapeutic intervention in the United States and in Toronto, acupuncture has been proven to be effective in treating health conditions. Such conditions may include:
-
Post-operative and chemotherapy nausea
-

Asthma
-
Low back pain
5 Stroke rehabilitation
-
Headache and migraine

There are however, risks in this type of treatment but is lessened with more and more experienced and competent acupuncture practitioners emerging. The possible side effects may include internal organ injury if the needles are pushed way too deep, infectious disease with reuse of contaminated needles, and bruising or bleeding in needle sites. To make sure that you are facing a competent practitioner, find someone just as how you look for a reliable doctor. One of the best ways is by recommendations. Ask people you know if they have a contact on a practitioner that they trust. Also, you may want to interview the practitioner by asking how the process will be able to help you. Another way is through checking credentials and trainings.
What to expect with Acupuncture Treatment?
An initial evaluation is usually done by the practitioner to assess what type of acupuncture treatment is needed for a certain ailment. The practitioner will then tell you the location of the treatment then the treatment begins. Needle insertion is the first step. Usually, little to no discomfort is felt while the needle is being inserted. The needle is then manually manipulated once they are placed in the right depth. Then needle removal comes after 15 to 30 minutes. Make sure that your acupuncture practitioner disposes the needles after removal. After the treatment, patients usually feel more relaxed and others may even feel energized or some may even not feel any changes.
With many budding acupuncture practitioners in Toronto, feel free to look around and find someone who will be able to meet your needs and give you satisfaction with the treatment.
