The true Transilvania vampire legend is about a ruler named Vlad Tepes. As you probably heard before, he was famous because he used brutal methods to punish the criminals in the controlled regions: Walachia and Transylvania.

Vlad Tepes is his name in Romanian, Vlad the Impaler is translated in English. He impaled people and then he let the bodies hanged there for several days in a row. The smell was insupportable after two or more days. His cruelty is mainly the reason why Bram Stoker created the story about Dracula referring to Vlad the Impaler.

Dracula legend became a successful story also because people are easily frightened by brutality and terror. After Dracula vampire story many other stories were created with vampires and werewolves but Dracula remains the original.

No one could disrespect him. Even if he ruled over two small regions, this was the whole country, he was a respected leader and important European forces feared him because of his technique in battle which was total war. He did not spare lives. He fought with all the resources. Vatican congratulated him many times because of his battles against the muslims.

This is actually the true story behind the famous leader Vlad Tepes. Of course, the legend sells well, but also the true story. The Saint Cyr Military Academy in France founded by Napoleon Bonaparte keeps a wall full with photos of important military leaders worldwide. Vlad Tepes is one of them and his photo is placed on a row of photos on the top of the wall.

Eventually, you are probably impressed by this character, Dracula and you probably want to visit and walk where Vlad used to walk centuries ago.
