There was a time when employee matters were handled by companies themselves, with a small staff of dedicated personnel taking care of everything that related to hiring and firing, and employees rights. For the larger companies, this was a mammoth task requiring huge resources and high costs that were difficult to swallow. But in recent years, more and more companies have been outsourcing the whole headache to professional hr consultancy services, much to the benefit of both the employers and the employees.
Arguably, human resources is as significant a section of any company or corporation as the sales or legal departments. In fact, for any of those other departments, it is human resources that finds the people to staff them. The scope of responsibility that human resources departments manage is huge, ranging from hiring new personnel to the implementation of national health and safety or environmental regulations. For most companies, it makes more sense to avail of the wisdom of a health and safety consultant, for example, than hiring someone full time, or going to an environmental consultant for advise on regulations relating to the workplace. A hr outsourcing company houses all of the relevant experts in one place, and making use of their services provides a number of advantages, not least in relation to cost and legal knowledge.
The fact is that good staff management is a vital part of any successful company, regardless of its size. How employees relate to their employers can mean the difference between simply meeting targets and surpassing them. It has been a long held belief that the best worker is a happy worker, and aside from a good salary, many aspects of a work contract play a part in establishing and maintaining that degree of satisfaction.
For example, a salesman might have enjoyed a particularly productive month, and he will expect the bonus or commission terms in his contract to be adhered to. Or perhaps a junior executive is to have a dental operation, which he believes should be covered by the terms of the health insurance policy in his contract. Of course, a host of other issues, from areas as serious as sexual harassment to as small as holiday entitlements also have to be dealt with.
In fact, the workload can be huge. In terms of hiring, it is responsible for selecting suitable candidates for the new post, checking on their credentials, organising and carrying out interviews, and ultimately recommending one individual to be hired. It also needs to keep track of absenteeism, the number of days holidays due and spent for each staff member, contract renewal dates and even organising staff events designed to build company morale.
The costs involved in getting all this work done can be high, but outsourcing human resources responsibilities results in those costs falling. This is because, firstly, the overall consultancy fee will be significantly lower that the cost of paying dedicated staff their annual salaries. Human resources companies are sure to have a number of clients, with varying degrees of service provided to each. Secondly, the drain on company resources, such as office space, will also be less, with a desk that might otherwise have been used by human resources staff, who do not contribute to any increase in profits, being occupied by sales staff that do.
Another area in which a company can benefit significantly from a human resources consultancy service is in the legal aspects of the workplace. This too is a vast area. For example, when it comes to firing an employee, the department must investigate the specific circumstance, which many require detailed interviews of staff members, so as to assess that there are ample grounds to dismiss, while the contract of the particular employ will also need to be examined. These steps must be taken in order to ensure that no legal action can afterwards be taken against the company.
There are numerous other areas where a hr outsourcing company can be of benefit, such as the proper implementation of specific regulations relating to the workplace and employment rights, all of which can change from year to year. This is where a fully qualified health and safety consultant can save a company from law suits or fines from the regulatory authority.
So, clearly, opting for the enlightenment provided by a professional hr consultancy makes sense.
