Singing is not as easy as it may seem. It takes a great amount of effort for singers to achieve good results. They usually try to sing higher to improve their singing capability. Experienced and skillful singers have the ability to sing higher while amateur singers usually need more practice to reach higher pitches. There are a number of methods to increase vocal range which is discussed below:

Improve your posture

Having the right posture while singing can affect your singing greatly. When you stand as you sing, the air flow to your lungs is easier because there is no obstruction of your airways. Thus, the better you breathe, the better you can sing; as singing is all about maintaining the pitch of voice.

Breathe correctly

Having good breathing technique is the next thing that is critical for a singer. Deep breath with your back in straight position takes ample amount of air to your lungs. By getting enough air into your lungs, you have a better chance of reaching high notes. If you are looking to increase your ability to sing at higher pitches, try to practice breathing at slow rate and try to utilize your diaphragm muscles as much as possible. Your diaphragm muscles are below your ribcage.

Build your voice power

Vocal power is something that varies from one person to another. Some people have soft voice while others have loud. As a singer, you must be comfortable with your voice to give your best. Make use of your voice naturally without forcing yourself too much. Your audience should feel like they are listening to a natural performance and not something strained.

Find your voice

Each singer has two different voice which are termed the chest and the head voice. The voice that comes most naturally to you is called the chest voice. Compared to the chest voice, the head voice is usually a higher pitch. It takes certain time for a singer to move from his normal voice to head voice as this does not happen overnight nor this is recommended for beginners. Rather than trying to quicken the process, you should take your time and let it develop naturally over time. Another option is to use a mixed voice to reach high notes.

Practice

In order to sing higher, practice is the critical. You should devote around 15 to 30 minutes daily to practice. Never start singing without preparing your lungs by breathing exercises. Things to practice include using different scales. Begin at a low tone and gradually increase to higher tones. Use some of your favourite songs for practicing. As you practice consistently every day, your vocal cord will develop strength and you will find that you can sing for longer period at higher notes. Always remember to take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water and keep good posture while singing. If you follow these tips, you will soon achieve the desired results.
