If you ask any successful person what's behinds their success, chances are they'll tell you something like, "Success is 10 motivation" or, to put it another way: it's all about the mindset. And after having worked with many different people in many different walks of life, I can say that it's no different in the matter of career management!
How often have you set yourself a goal which you know is perfectly within your capability, but yet you didn't achieve it? This happens to some extent or another for most people. Usually, it's not that we don't know how to do the thing that we need to do, it's that something else gets in the way.
Another saying about successful people is that "successful people do the things the unsuccessful people don't want to do."
The things we don't want to do, or what else gets in the way, takes different forms for different people. In many cases, it's a simple matter: doing what we need to do in order to achieve the goal lies outside our comfort zone. If weren't, wouldn't we already have done it?
This is why it's so important to create a compelling future: a clear, well-defined image of your chosen outcome will propel you towards it at those times when the going gets tough.
In other words, creating a vision and a mission of what you want out of life will provide you with some direction and momentum to move forward and manage your career.
If you've laid out your goal and a plan with a realistic and worthy vision for your life ahead, you will quickly notice how differently you perceive and react to events.
A compelling vision will make you feel good about yourself. Also, it leaves you with a clear mind, which allows you to make rational career choices and decisions and fit them into your own scheme of things, keeping the bigger picture in mind.
