Is your ps3 one of the thousands that keeps flashing the yellow light of death due to overheating? Would you be interested in prolonging the life of your Playstation 3? If so then you should take a look at these tips to help keep your PS3 cool even during the longest gaming session.

  1. Sounds obvious this one, just turn your console off for about an hour and then see if that has given the console sufficient time to cool down. If you have been playing for a long time or downloading for extended periods of time this can cause the overheating yellow light of death.

  2. Check the ventilation slots on your console. Are they dusty? A build up of dust or anything blocking those holes can cause your PS3 to overheat. To remove the dust it is advisable to use a clean dry cloth and gently brush the dust away.

  3. Take a look at where you store your console. Many people store theirs in an entertainment unit with all their other audio video equipment. While this can look really cool heat coming off of all the gadgets can cause overheating as the ps3 can only circulate warm air. Many people keep them in a bookcase which has inadequate space for the air to circulate around the console.

  4. Try positioning your console near to your air conditioning unit. Allowing the cool air to blow through your console will help dramatically reduce the frequency of your PS3 overheating issues. If the air conditioning is already functioning you are just using what you already have so no need for additional costs.

  5. Purchasing an extra fan maybe the answer for you. You could use a laptop cooling pad if you have one or a specifically designed one. The advantage the purpose built one has is that it will fit neatly to your console and will not look too awful. Also the positioning of the fan will be better because that is what it was created for.

  6. There is one more thing you can try. The PS3s ability to play high definition games can cause the console to overheat as the processors and other internal parts are working a lot harder. You may need to check the display settings on your PS3 and lower the resolution from High definition to one of the lower settings. This is probably not the best long term fix but it should help in the short run.
