The resort of Playa Blanca in Lanzarote is located on the southern coast of the island, and is a popular Lanzarote holiday destination for families with young children. This relaxing coastal resort is less than 20 miles from the airport and has grown over the course of time from a small, traditional fishing village, which has helped it to retain its authentic Canarian feel. The sheltered bays of Playa Blanca make the beaches very popular with bathers, and there are activities such as sailing, snorkelling and scuba diving to enjoy. The resort boasts around five miles of magnificent sandy bays in which to soak up the sun and splash in the sea.

Spending time on holidays to Playa Blanca can be equal parts active and relaxed. At the Sports Marina Rubicon just outside of the town centre visitors spend time strolling along the promenade, where there is a variety of shopping boutiques, handicraft shops and even an art gallery. To get your adrenaline going, head down to the beach to book a session of jet skiing or perhaps enjoy some more relaxing sailing on one of the many pleasure boats bobbing up and down in the marina. Fill up in one of a range of restaurants along the promenade, serving local and regional specialities and a variety of international favourites.

The island of Lanzarote has plenty to offer in terms of superb natural scenery, including the remarkable landscapes of the Timanfaya National Park, with its stark volcanic rocks and craters that are said to resemble a lunar landscape. You can even visit a restaurant in the national park to enjoy a steak cooked on a grill that uses volcanic heat. If the natural beauty of Lanzarote is not your thing, there is always time for shopping on a Playa Blanca holiday. The town itself is fairly small, but there are a growing number of shops and boutiques to browse, where you can easily pick up a few souvenirs for the folks back home.

As you might expect from a relatively quiet family resort in Lanzarote, the nightlife in Playa Blanca is fairly low key, with cafes, bars and restaurants providing much of the evening's entertainment. Many of the hotels in Playa Blanca also provide their own in-house entertainment, which will typically be suitable for a family audience. The sedate nature of holidays in Playa Blanca also makes it ideal for couples looking for a quiet retreat.
