Most people will find that their first tuxedo wearing experience comes in the form of the prom tuxedo. In fact, this may be the only tuxedo they wear before they get married or attend a close friends wedding. If you're doing research on what kind of tuxedo to wear to your prom, you have come to the right place.
In this article, I'll go over the different types of tuxedo styles and give advice on why you should or shouldn't wear each particular style to your prom. You'll learn everything you need to know so that you can get ready for your prom.
For starters, you should know that there are three distinct types of tuxedos you can wear to your prom. These include the shawl lapel tuxedo the notch lapel tuxedo and the peak lapel tuxedo. Each type looks different and with very little practice can easily be picked out. Just in case you didn't know, a tuxedo lapel can be found between the collar and the top of the jacket.
The notch lapel tuxedo looks just like a suit jacket. This style tends to be a bit less formal than a peak lapel tux, but more formal than a shawl tux. Although I think the peak lapel tuxedo is much better suited to the prom, the notch lapel is perfectly acceptable and will keep you from standing out from the crowd.
You'll notice that shawel lapel tuxedos don't have any notches or peaks in them. If you've ever seen the father of playboy's smoking jacket, you already know what a shawl lapel looks like. Notice how informal and relaxed this looks. This type of lapel can be seen on tuxedos but is not for people looking to dress up formally. If you're searching for a less formal look, than this tuxedo jacket style might be for you.
The peak lapel tuxedo has high points at the top of the lapel and looks very stately. I'd highly recommend this tuxedo for a prom and a wedding. It is very dressy and makes people look quite dashing.
Did you know that it can actually be less costly to purchase a tux rather than to rent one? For more information on this along with other issues relevant to the men's tuxedo, check out the tuxedo guide.
