The Hayes Conference Centre is a venue in Swanwick which is a village located in the Amber Valley district of the English county of Derbyshire. The conference centre was originally a private residence called Swanwick Hayes that was built in eighteen sixties for Mr Fitzherbert Wright who is an ancestor of the Duchess of York. He was her great, great grandfather on her mother's side.
In the year 1910 the son of Mr Fitzherbert Wright, called John Fitzherbert Wright, sold Swanwick Hayes to a property company. In early years of the nineteen hundreds Swanwick Hayes was redeveloped into a conference centre, and the use to which this facility has been put has remained largely the same to the present day, welcoming hundreds of conference delegates each year.
Swanwick Hayes did swerve away from being a conference centre during World War Two when it was used as a facility for imprisoning prisoners of war. Prisoners from Hitler's Germany and Mussolini's Italy were held there. A Luftwaffe officer managed to escape from the prisoner of war camp at Swanwick Hayes, and the story of this was made into a movie called The One That Got Away.
The Hayes Conference Centre in Swanwick has a range of facilities for meetings and conferences. It has two large halls that are available for conferences. Each hall has a capacity for around four hundred delegates. There are also two smaller halls, with a capacity of around one hundred and fifty delegates each, for less large scale conferences. There are also around thirty five smaller meeting rooms that can be used for gatherings of all kinds. All of these rooms have audio visual facilities, the use of which is included in the hire charge for the conference or meeting room. These facilities include data projectors, overhead projectors and flip charts.
Wireless internet is available over most of the Hayes Conference Centre in Swanwick. For people who do not have a wireless enabled laptop computer with them, there is an internet room with desktop computers connected to the internet. These facilities are available twenty four hours a day and free of charge. For delegates who are staying overnight, the Hayes Conference Centre in Swanwick offers two hundred and seventy bedrooms. More than two hundred of these bedrooms have en suite facilities.
For relaxation and exercise, the Hayes Conference Centre in Swanwick has a full sized outdoor football pitch on which football games can be organized. There is also an indoor sports hall for games such as five a side football and badminton, and a smaller games room where games like darts and snooker and table tennis can be played.
For people who want to conduct weddings and religious services on site, the Hayes Conference Centre in Swanwick has a chapel that can hold three hundred and fifty people. The chapel is in a part of the estate that is suitably quiet and peaceful. There is a gift shop at the Hayes Conference Centre in Swanwick. Here, you can buy items to take home to your family or as personal mementos for yourself.
