The game of paintball is a fun and exciting game of strategy. The most effective teams always use every tool available to their advantage, and given the nature of the game, they need to be able to think on their feet and act quickly as if on instinct. By developing and practicing strategies, it becomes easier to perform these actions in the heat of the battle.

Paintball Bunkers can be the key to an effective strategy, but a common mistake is to see a bunker as merely a place to hide. In a game so reliant on effective strategy, players need to think outside the box to ensure victory.

One of the biggest mistakes made by players is only shooting over the top of a bunker. In this move, a player will pop up over the top and try to quickly fire off shoots, and then duck down before getting hit. They will then tend to repeat this move. One of the easiest strategies to adapt is aimed at spicing up this behavior. If the player keeps popping up, like the mole in "Whack a Mole", the opponent will catch on and aim for the top of the bunker, waiting for the mole to pop up in the same general area. Instead of using the top, use the sides. Peek out from the side and snipe a few shots from that position. Then, confuse the opponent by popping out on the opposite side next; this will prevent the opponent from having an easy target, and knowing where they should aim. Make the angles fired from appear random by switching sides at different intervals, and use the top shot sparingly for maximum effectiveness and minimal chances of being hit with paintballs.

During team play, paintball bunkers make for an excellent position for providing cover fire for teammates on the move. This strategy involves one teammate staying at the bunker and firing at opponents, while another teammate takes this opportunity to cover ground. Most likely, the opponent will duck back and attempt to avoid the incoming fire. This enables the teammate to cover significant ground without being hit.

The paintball field is a place to have fun and feel the adrenaline rush, while having to think fast and strategize on the run. By developing basic strategies such as these involving bunkers, it helps to make these actions come naturally, and become instinct.
