The market of IT with respect to Managed Security Services adopted by various industries is increasing at a fast rate. Because of the trends and patterns of the computer attacks and various threats to the servers and networks it is very important that organizations should possess reliable information security. It is good to outsource managed security services with a contract with any managed security services provider (MSSP).
In the present scenario many companies like network and server support companies are turning themselves into MSSPs to offer some security services. With this they get advantage of cost reduction and an easy access to skilled staff. These services can be –
Virtual private networks, network boundary protection, firewall protection
Security monitoring
Incident management
Vulnerability assessment and penetration testing
Anti-virus, spam and content filtering services
Information security risk assessments
Data archiving and restoration
On-site consulting
A few organizations are still using outdated devices but when the managed security services entered the market they realize to upgrade with the latest devices. If organizations even they are providing NOC Services want to experience shared costs, 24×7 coverage and latest tools they should consider security outsourcing to a reliable partners or third parties. To choose a perfect MSSP for managed risks is critical. For this, companies should consider experience, ability to execute, long term stability, skills and expertise and support functions. It’s important for an MSSP to look beyond the obvious IT budget the client has, and help them find ways to avoid productivity loss, security breaches and workflow inefficiencies.
The Indian Industry has reached the level where organizations should adopt the MSS model which is helping in improving the security posture & reducing the operational costs. With the expansion of infrastructures in India the growing business requirements and focusing on managed security has become a challenge, especially with business being conducted from offices located across various locations. The managed security model helps organizations focus on their key business with the comfort that security is being controlled by the experts. Also there are some pros and cons of taking an MSS.
Cost – The cost of a managed security services is typically less than hiring in-house, full time security experts. Staffing – The deficiency of a skilled and efficient technician can affect the company very much but after outsourcing the hiring and training costs become the responsibility of the MSSP. Skills – The in-house employees takes care only part time basis but an outsourced employee will do it on full time basis. Facilities – Various providers have their special security operations centers in different locations. Security Awareness – The MSSP often have new information about technologies, threats and latest tools than the in-house department. There are some demerits of considering an MSSP like lack of trust, dependence, ownership, shared environment, implementation of projects & plans, partnership issues and hidden costs etc.
As managed security services market is gradually picking up, similarly the demand of trusted service providers are also on rise. Issues like tight budget, lack of adequate skilled staffs, lack of proper infrastructure etc. are obviously accelerating the growth of this industry. In future, experts feel that India will play major role as per as managed security service market is concerned.
