Often labelled the party island of the Spanish resorts, there’s more to Ibiza than meets the eye. True, the island does play host to some of the biggest party events in the global calendar both on the water and on terra firma, but there’s another, slightly less well known side to this island. The best way to discover Ibiza is by picking up a low cost hire car at the airport so you have the freedom to explore the island as you please.
The resort of Portinatx for example, with its three nice, sandy beaches is a firm favourite with families seeking a quieter, slower pace than the party-goers. Another family favourite is Es Cana with its long sandy cove, fishing harbour and weekly Hippy Market (great for the parents!). For those seeking great swimming and water sports, Cala Vadella is a stunning, sandy bay with just a handful of hotels and shops. Promising a peaceful and restful break, this is a firm favourite for families and couples alike.
Ibiza town, although it doesn’t have a beach is a popular destination for tourists due to its amazing array of attractions and entertainment. It really does have something for everyone. Down in the Port there’s a great range of nightlife whereas The Marina takes life at a more relaxed pace, offering fine dining and great people-watching opportunities. The old town and the Plaza del Parque are also great places to sit and watch the world go by or to shop ‘til you drop. Take the short drive to the nearby beach in Talamanca if it’s a bit of beach-life you’re after, or use your hire car to really get to know this varied and intriguing island.
When it comes to wining and dining, lamb, fish, chicken and sardines feature highly on the local Ibicencan menus, as well as rabbit which also features from time to time. For sporty types, thanks to the high summer water temperatures there’s an abundance of water sports, from diving to jet skiing, windsurfing, waterskiing and sailing. If it’s land sports which float your boat, there’s everything from tennis, golf and riding to mountain biking. As we’ve already said, there truly is something for everyone here.
Located only five minutes from Ibiza Town, Ibiza Airport is the island’s main air communication link. It’s a modern affair with a good range of domestic and international flights from a variety of airlines. All of the major car hire companies are represented at the airport, including Budget, Hertz, Alamo, Sixt, EasyCar and Thrifty, but to save yourself time and stress, you’d be well advised to select and book your low cost car hire at Ibiza Airport before your arrival.
