Many families find that they have trouble with chores such as cleaning. Some hire maids or people to come clean for them. This is also true when it comes to the family dog. The family dog is oftentimes very difficult to deal with and clean. Many people choose to take their dogs to professional groomers. But those who wish to save money end up doing it themselves. This can be done by setting aside a specific place where the dog is going to be cleaned, using special shampoo and cleaning cloths. With all of these things, someone can be sure that their dog will be a happy and clean member of their family.

The first thing that is needed to clean the family dog is to set aside or find a designated spot to actually do the bathing. This can be in the bathtub, utility sink or outside in the driveway. Many people find that if they clean their dog in the bathtub or sink that it is a good idea to have a cover over the drain, if the dog sheds. This is to prevent the drain clogging because of hair build-up. When someone chooses to clean their canine companion outside, there is much less a chance for any sort of mess. They can easily use a garden hose to provide a continuous stream of water for bathing and rinsing. Doing it outdoors on a warm day will prevent the water from being too cold.

After first wetting down the canine with lukewarm water, lather up the fir with a little bit of shampoo. Many family veterinarians suggest that those who own family pets use specialized shampoos to clean their animals. This is also true for dogs. Special shampoos are specifically designed to take care of the animal’s hair and skin. Using regular human shampoo would dry out the animal’s skin, making the furry companion very uncomfortable and itchy. Special shampoo can be found in various different pet supply stores. Baby shampoo will work in a pinch.

Another necessary supply in cleaning the family dog is cleaning cloths or shop rags. These help spread the shampoo and make sure that there is an even covering over the pet. The bather should take care to avoid getting lather in the eyes, nose and mouth. The next step is to rinse out all of the soap. The family dog may shake out any excess water or suds at will, so the cleaner should be prepared and dressed appropriately. When the process is finished, the bather should rub down the animal to soak up some of the water, then wrap up the family’s furry friend in one or two cotton towels, depending on the animal’s size.

Many families have difficulty cleaning their household pets. Some hire maids or take them to professionals. But all it takes are some supplies and a little time. It is easily done at home. When the task is complete, the pet owner will have a very happy and silky soft member of the family. If someone finds themselves wanting to save a little money to clean the family dog by themselves and they don’t mind getting a little wet before it’s all over, this is a viable option.
