Web Site Usability Studies
Studies show that a website can lose a prospective customer in just seconds. If that person goes to a website and is not drawn in within just a few seconds, they leave. Once the person has left the website, they will remember not to return for whatever reason. In those few seconds, you have lost that customer to the competition.
There is a way to prevent this from happening. By using website usability studies, you can create a successful web design. The cost of a website has no reflection on its productivity. If you do not get your message across to the reader, they lose interest and leave your website. In order to offer a good website, the design has to offer user-friendly navigation. If they cannot find it or have to continue to search for something that is not there, poof they will be gone.
There are a few things you can do to ensure the visitor has a good user experience and will return to your site. Nothing is a 100% guarantee, but these steps will help you move ahead in the right direction.
-
Web content should be clear and relating to the site. There is no need to offer information not relevant to the site. This only clogs your pages and offers useless information to those who do not need it. Data organization is also important and should be offered in a way that is useful to the user.
-
The layout should also be user friendly. The reader should be able to scan the page and get the beneficial information at a glance. You can use visual cues to direct them to more condensed content.
-
By using shapes and colors, you can lead a reader though the website. Positioning is also important when trying to attract the viewer’s attention.
-
The main objective for a website is to express a message. Once you have successfully drawn the reader in, you must keep his/her attention so they will continue to the next step. If your page is congested, the reader will lose focus on the message. Clean clutter free content will gain attention.
-
Make sure your webpage is accessible. Pages that are slow to load or dead links can be a deal breaker for most web users. Make sure the pages are optimized according to the technical characteristics of your targeted audiences.
Many people do not realize how much work goes into web design . Unfortunately, many people realize the importance of web design after they have had a website fail due to poor management. To have a great web design, you must first use the right design team.
