The trail length is 1.1 miles and the trail starts at the back of the visitors center at the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. The path towards Kennesaw Mountain is steep all the way to the top and is only broken by a few intervals of a level terrain. The trail is mostly challenging yet the beauty of the habitat is just simply breathtaking as you move towards the top of the Kennesaw Mountain.
The journey starts at the Visitors Center pacing onto a cement pathway where it then swerves right onto a trailhead building. Move further on this path passing Kennesaw Mountain Road as the tread way continues to make a steady ascent into the forest. The path elevates almost 100 feet for every 0.1 miles. On your way to the top of Kennesaw Mountain, several Civil War entrenchments and remnants can be seen.
The historical place offers your some interesting structures during the Civil War such as rifle pits, gun embankment, cement monuments, signal platform, and battle trenches on the road. The signal platform was a complex signaling system that was used by the Signal Corps in relaying the message to General Corps in Rome Georgia. About 0.7 mile on from the trail head, an overlook offers an excellent scenic view of the mountain where there is also a trail on the left of this which is a short loop towards the south of Kennesaw Mountain. Here you will also find a plaque dedicated to the general of Georgia who fought bravely during the Civil War. Originally, the old road already ended at here until the Confederate artillery continued building the path all to the top of Kennesaw Mountain.
Continue pass this as the trail leads you to the crest of the mountain onto the gun embankment which has some artillery earthworks. The Confederates used to take cover behind these and fire at the Federals below the steep mountain. You may also observe some visible markings of the original road as you move to the top of the mountain.
The trail also affords some mountain springs which are the main attraction of the area back in 1840. The springs have paved the way for the area to become the first popular tourist spot of Marietta Georgia to boom at that time. At the Georgia overlook on the top, the concrete memorial shows respect and honor to the generals of Georgia who fought during the Civil War.
If we have learned anything from recent flash floods and other tragedies it is that a reliable radio can save a life. We carry a variety of VHF, UHF and CB radios for sale. We also carry the more powerful 10 Meter Radios for those who feel they may need the extra broadcasting power.
