Cromer is a beautiful, coastal town, which is situated on the scenic north Norfolk coast and features high cliffs overlooking sandy beaches, caressed by blue sea and a town centre brimming with history that dates back to the Victorian era.
Cromer achieved resort status in the early 19th century thanks to rich banking families making it the place to own second homes for the summer months. Cromer museum is a popular attraction, both with locals and visitors who go to see the history of the area in photographs and pictures. There is also a plethora of fossils that have been found along the town's streets and beaches from hundreds of years ago.
Famous for its crab fishing in the surrounding seas, the reputation is still intact today, as visitors to the area can see the crab boats arriving every morning with a fresh catch, which can then be bought in the local shops and are served as delicacies in the seaside restaurants.
As well as the crab fishing, Cromer is also well known for its association with the RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution - which dates back more than 200 years. Visitors to the area can learn about the history of this association as the town holds an annual Lifeboat Day and the RNLI Henry Blogg Museum is located in the town.
With stunning Victorian and Edwardian architecture, Cromer is full of charm and there are plenty of places to stay to best experience this, including hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses, some of which come with stunning sea views.
The Norfolk coastal path is an ideal place to enjoy a walk and visitors and locals can experience the area by cycling along the coast cycleway, which will take you through quiet roads and down lanes, surrounded by beautiful countryside. There is also the opportunity to enjoy sea angling from the town's beaches.
Visitors are also drawn to Cromer thanks to the famous Pavilion Theatre, situated on the end of the pier that plays host to regular, pier shows. There is also a cinema and art galleries, as well as a folk festival and carnival, which is held on an annual basis and continues to reflect the Victorian era the area is famous for.
On the outskirts of Cromer is a new attraction which provides a fun day out for all the family. Amazona Zoo is situated on a 10 acre site and is based around a South American theme. Animals include jaguars, monkeys and flamingos as well as a reptile house featuring snakes and lizards which are native to South America. There are also playgrounds and plenty of activities for all the family and there are places to eat and gift shops where you can pick up souvenirs of your day.
Cromer church dominates the town as it sports the highest church tower in the Norfolk area. There are 172 steps up to the top, but it is worth the climb, as you can see views all across the town and along the coast.
