A prom is a party where you show who you are. You can display all you have in terms of beauty and fashion sense. To be completed, you should start shopping earlier for four major things: the prom dress, jewelry, purse, and shoes. These 4 elements are going to be your fairy that will make you look most amazing for that night.

Before starting to shop, you need to know the basic styles of dress suitable for you. The important points of selection of dresses come from understanding of your body type such as your height, size, and skin color, etc. These are very essential elements in buying the right color, size and style of dress. There are various types of dresses, but I will only explain the basic styles of dresses for your easy understanding.

First, long dress, empire cut or sheath, is your best choice if you are tall with white or a darker tone skin. It will make you look more noticeable next to your shorter peers. Second, tea length dresses are also very popular for tall and skinny bodies. It will make you look more moderate, and your face and upper body will be emphasized, so medium color tone skins will be the best candidate. Third, short dress would be my best recommendation if you want to get a lot of attention. This also makes you look tall while you are wearing high heels for your lower height. Years ago, many girls hesitated to try to wear this type of dress because they thought the prom was a kind of formal gathering, so they should wear a traditional type of long dress. However, trends have changed since 2000. Many low price but high quality short prom dresses are available in designer dress market as well as the off brand market. The major merits of short dresses are its comfortable fitting. However, if you are too tall, be a little cautious. You may look unbalanced. Fourth, the ball gown is a queen’s choice. As not many girls digest the color of purple or red well, this type of dress will be the best candidates for either white or dark skinned tall figures. If you want to wear this type of dress, it would be fine, but be careful if you are not tall enough.

The next essential element in prom is a purse. Get a nice fancy, metallic color small purse; normal dull color big bags are not acceptable. Just buy a small clutch that has enough space for your two to three cosmetics, phone, key, etc. Any color would be fine.

The third important item will be your jewelry. You may choose any styles of jewelry to your own taste. However, as a prom is a special event with little vanity, you may try to wear bigger jewelry than normal. High quality imitation jewelry is enough. The size is more important than style in this type of party. If you wear small sized jewelry, they do not simply recognize it.

The final element is your pretty shoes. If you wear a long dress or ball gown, it does not really matter what you wear. However, if you wear a short dress or tea length dress, wear long high heels, those make you tall and beautiful. Just match the color of shoes to the dress, or a totally opposite color if you want to be prominent, but do not wear any boots at all. No Uggs. You already know this, but occasionally, I see those types of shoes worn by girls at proms.

Now you have a basic idea of how to prepare for your prom. After you prepare, try to match and coordinate all your things a couple times as a rehearsal. Stand in front of a mirror. You will find a beautiful Cinderella stands in front of you. All you need to do from now is enjoy and make a memorable prom for you.

Enjoy.
