Irrespective of the type of dental problem you may face, radiology may prove beneficial in both diagnostic and treatment. During the last two decades, research has witnessed great advancements as far as the radiological effective and applicability are concerned. Thus, dentists can now use various machines to identify or even treat diseases.
-
Diagnosis Radiology. The traditional use of Radiology in dental medicine, which is for diagnostic purposes, is more and more common, due to the increased efficiency of the machines. Patients can now benefit from more films than they did 30 years ago, as radiation levels have continuously decreased since then.
-
Interventional Radiology. Even if they are not as common in dentistry as other uses of Radiology, interventional practices may help during specific treatments: i.e. interventional maxillofacial procedures, sialograms, core biopsies, etc.
-
Image-guided surgeries. Such interventions are beneficial for both parties: dentist (as they reduce the difficulty of the procedure) and patients (because they increase comfort whilst reducing treatment time)
-
Image-guided orthodontics is an excellent solution to optimize the process of rearranging teeth to a healthier and more comfortable state.
-
MRI and bone densitometry for general health issues which may influence in time the condition of teeth.
Even if patients should not consider X-Rays for every possible treatment they may undertake, radiation levels are safe today to cover the large majority of the common dental treatments (https://www.dentfix.ro/patients/send-your-x-ray-pictures/?lang=en).
