This short loop trail will only take 1.7 miles to hike as it makes an ascent to the Tumbling Waters crossing over a creek and into the Carters Lake area. To get here from Ellijay, take 282/76 to the west and pass the Old Hwy 5-76 junction. Continue moving west for another 6 moles on 76 and then look for the Ridgeway Park Sign. At this section, follow a left turn directional sign at the Woodring Branch Road and then park at the lot near the entrance. Then proceed to the boat ramp for the trailhead.
The trailhead is at a boat launch parking section at the Ridgeway Park at Carters Lake. The treadway starts on a steep hillside ridge following a footpath towards the waterfalls along Tails Creek. The wide pathway comes across two footbridges over the creek which leads hikers to Tails Creek. Another bridge crossing is expected along the path to the falls.
A side path is also available prior to the bridge that proceeds to the top of the mountain where an observation deck is found. From the bridge, the treadway splits several directions but proceed straight to climb another observation deck which circles towards where a mill wheel used to be situated. Continue to follow the trail down the creek as the footpath curves right prior to approaching an indentation on the ground where the sluice of a sawmill was located just halfway to the summit of the falls.
From this old roadbed, the trail splits from the sluice and into a third overlook on the right. Follow a set of steep stairs as the Tumbling Waters Trail moves down to Carters Lakes where you will get to see a series of stunning cascades. The path further down affords you to get an up close view of the lake down the base of the falls. On your way back, just retrace the loop back to an intersection near the bridge and return to the parking area at the start of the trail.
Nevertheless for those outdoor enthusiasts who are not contented of this short day hike trail, there are several other hiking and biking trails around the vicinity which stretches for approximately another 6 miles. The view to the waterfalls makes a refreshing break for this short trail. The nearest town here is Chatsworth. Just follow this easy loop trail where its markers are just a few directional signs created by the US Army Corp of Engineers which leads you to the falls.
If we have learned anything from recent flash floods and other tragedies it is that a reliable radio can save a life. We carry a variety of VHF, UHF and CB radios for sale. We also carry the more powerful 10 Meter Radios for those who feel they may need the extra broadcasting power.
