The current CEO, Michael Dell, started selling IBM compatible PCs from his dorm room at the University of Texas in 1984 with only a thousand dollar capital. Eventually he had to drop out from school to focus on his start-up business and was given a three hundred thousand dollar capital from his family to expand. It was then named PCs Limited. The year after, the company started selling computers of their own brand advertising the products on national computer magazines and custom built each order according to the customers preferences and grossed more than seventy three million in its first year. In 1988, the company changed its name to the family name and named it Dell Computer Corporation and first expanded in Ireland. By 1992, Michael Dell was named the youngest CEO in the list of Fortune 500 companies. Finally by 2002, they expanded their product line and included printers among others. Dell takes a strategic approach in sales as they do not function like any other company. They customize their equipment to how consumers prefer their equipment to be built. This is an approach different from how consumers are used to buying almost anything, by choosing from what is readily available off the shelf.
Dell printers are known to be world class as well as Dell printer cartridges that come with it. They go through a very strict manufacturing process to ensure that the quality consumers get in purchasing these equipment are worth the investment similar to how the company manufactures all their equipment. They are offered at a very reasonable price although the same cannot be said for the ink cartridges. There are generally two ways printer manufacturers make money from their equipment. First is selling the printer at a very steep price but ensuring that ink cartridges are sold at a very reasonable price like Epson ink cartridges. The second method is the other way around, printers are sold at a very affordable price while cartridges are sold expensively as with how Dell does business.
Dell has taken their environmental responsibility to heart being the first company in the information technology industry to enforce a product recycling process in 2004. They take recycling very seriously that in 2009 alone they recycled 7.2 million pounds of disposed water bottles into some of their products an equivalent of 263 million water bottles while utilizing 9.5 million milk jugs into packaging. They have also incorporated the use of bamboo into their packaging as bamboo grows almost anywhere and is a fast growing plant plus the fact that if bamboo is harvested the correct way, there is no need to re-plant it as it will grow right back. In fact, products like printers are produced with an eco mode feature that consumers can use through the printer settings meaning that the LCD display dims after two minutes of idle time and eventually goes on power save mode after ten minutes of idle time. A recycling program also comes as a service when you purchase their products by sending you free postage paid envelopes for recycling ink cartridges.
Today, Dell has taken another step in saving the environment as they have launched a new product, Next Life ink. Basically, it offers replacement ink cartridges for the worlds best known brands such as Hewlett-Packard ink cartridges, Canon ink cartridges, Epson ink cartridges and Lexmark ink cartridges. These new Dell printer cartridges are offered at a very affordable price at twenty percent less the cost of a newly manufactured cartridge and can print up to twenty percent more pages while utilizing remanufactured cartridges that help in the reduction of manufacturing new cartridges and waste. It also utilizes 30 percent lower carbon footprint than new ink cartridges and is composed of one hundred recyclable materials with fifty percent of its composition sourced from post consumer waste. If you cannot help the environment by purchasing these products then at least help by employing their free recycling program that goes for printers, ink cartridges and toners that usually comes with your purchase or any other brand thereof.
It is about time that the world goes green and there is no better company who can help you achieve it but Dell. In fact, thanks to them other popular brands have taken the plunge to help save the earth too.
