Cellulite is something that women just love to hate. While that orange peel skin look is something that most girls can have, it becomes even more pronounced in overweight women. The dimpling of the skin in your butt, tummy and arm areas is no great sight to look at even when you are the greatest looking gal around and it's something that most women resort to great lengths to, just to be able to attain flawless smooth skin.

However, instead of resorting to surgery or some other mechanical means to beat cellulite, there are practical things that you can do to make it less obvious. By following these no-nonsense and easy steps, you can be on your way to smoother complexion in as little as a week.

Let's start with the most obvious one: Exercise. Too much weight gain can make cellulite appearance worse. This is the reason why most women associate cellulite with excess fat. Even when women are thin, they still get cellulite, but the excess flab makes the dimpling more obvious. When you engage in cardiovascular workouts, you work towards shedding off those excess pounds and making cellulite less prominent. When you further tone your muscles with a resistance training regimen, you work towards improving the overall complexion of your skin.

Next, keep yourself hydrated. Drink at least eight to ten glasses a day. It flushes out the sodium in your body that causes you to bloat and thus makes your cellulite more obvious. Together with this practice, limit your intake of potato chips and other junk food so you don't retain fluid caused by too much salt intake from these kinds of foods. While on the subject of food, make sure that you adhere to a healthy and nutritious diet. Eat more protein from lean meat, nuts and fish. Fruits and vegetables also significantly reduce the appearance of cellulite and add a healthy glow to the skin.

Third, don't let stress get to you. When your body gets stressed, cortisol, the stress hormone, gets released into your system. This thins your skin and increases storage of body fat. Cortisol also impedes the production of the hormone that makes skin look smooth and healthy. When you can, take the time to relax to put your body back in equilibrium. Meditate, do Yoga or just walk around. Try breathing exercises to normalize your system and beat cellulite.

Fourth, kick that cigarette habit. Smoking is not only toxic to your body, it also shortens the oxygen and food supply to the different tissues and organs in the body. This makes your skin appear older than it really is. With premature aging, cellulite appears more prominently.

A simple thing you can do at home to beat cellulite is to body brush. When you brush your skin with upward strokes two times a day, you remove dead skin cells and stimulate lymphatic circulation. When circulation is improved, the appearance of cellulite is reduced. When you can afford it, go for a massage. Trained massage therapists can make skin tissue smoother and break down excess fat. This significantly reduces the appearance of cellulite.
